I'm after a helmet for mtbing, I've been looking at the bell sweep xc, mainly cuz Its the only helmet I've tried that I dont look a *** in :p. any recommendations for helmets please

thanks

I have this Trek one:

Cost me £35 but that was discounted. From a shop I think theyre normally £45. Its got a great fitting mechanism that is highly customisable and to a comfy, secure fit.

Its more important you get one thats a good fit than anything else and you don't necessarily have to spend that much for a capable one. Especially for MTBing, I would be wary of spending too much. One good knock and thats it, you have to buy a new one.

Never worn it personally.

Bell, Giro, MET, Specialised, Trek (not excluding others). All good makes but you really need to try before you buy to get a good fit. With out one, the helmets ability to protect you is compromised, potentially severely.

I don't like doing this and never do routinely, but you could always go to LBS, try on your short listed models and go back to the net for the purchase. Buy a spare tube or some tire levers or something though; for decency's sake. :p

Edit. I believe some manfacturers offer a crash replacement scheme. I dont know much about this and only heard of such a thing after buying my Trek. Probably works along the lines of a discount on replacing your helmet for the same model or atleast from same maker.

Just get somthing and go ride ;) I think you are thinking to much about looks..I have done the same thing myself. At the end of the day when you are out do you ever give somone a second look because of their helmet?
