Hi I am thinking of getting a helmet camera but not too sure which one to get I was thinking of either the contour roam 3 or the qumox sj4000, the sj4000 is cheaper by about half price but comes with loads of accessories, but is larger than the contour, the contour is smaller but more expensive. Anyone offer any advice either on these or an alternative, I think that the gopro is abit too expensive.

Thanks

How much battery life do you need?
Do you need a mic?
Do you prefer chin or side-mounted?
What do you want one for?

By the way, the GoPro hero 2014 has 2h45m of battery life with 1080p30 or 720p60 video options and is £85. Is that too expensive?

The camera is mainly for commuting to work so 30-40 minutes and will be charged at work, don't need a mic and most probably side mounted. When I look for GoPro 4 they are all around £250+ The contour I was looking at is £150 and the SJ4000 is £65

GoPro hero 2014 is £85, and substantially better than the SJ4000.

Well worth the price difference for the more than double battery life, known brand, accessory support, compatibility, warranty and reliability.

I have 2 of them and a Hero 3+, they're excellent little cameras.

You can see some footage of them in my unreleased video here:

The Hero 2014 is my ass cam and my crotch cam :p

how do they mount to the helmet exactly?

The have a clip that is stuck to the helmet via 3M double sided foam tape.

You can remove the camera and you;re left with a 5mm thickness clip on the helmet.

They're seriously strong stuff and stay attached at *COUGH* KPH.

I ordered the GoPro hero, I think Kreeeee is right about the better features so should be here on Wednesday, thanks for the help.

Got my gopro hero and mounted it on top of my helmet, ooerr, and it's great, excellent video at 1080p and showing approx. 4 hours battery life. Thanks for the advice made up, just a bit paranoid and keep checking it's still there :)

You're very welcome, they're brilliant cameras with excellent image quality.

That 4hXXm marker is probably your SD card capacity rather than your battery life. I get 2h45m-3h00m out of mine.

Kree, can these be mounted on a bike and charged at the same time? also what is max capacity sd card it can take?

Thinking of mounting to the rear and leaving it.

32GB max for the SD card.

You can charge and use the camera at the same time by putting on the skeleton back door that came with the camera and using a micro USB cable.

Will it still be waterproof? as in safe to ride in the rain with it charging? Will it continuolsy record?
