Helmet hire for track day

Just to be clear to the OP, regardless of what your email says or doesn't say, the rules for track days are:

Helmets must be car helmets
Helmets must be certified for use (most places now site Snell 2005+)
Helmets must be full face for use in a convertible car

Now, to what extend these rules apply varies. I have never seen any TDO check the certification of helmets. I've also never seen Motorbike helmets be an issue (they are usually very easy to spot as they come with colorful graphics). However the open face restriction to closed cars only is nearly always enforced.

What you have linked too is a scooter helmet. It fails all of the rules, so don't be surprised if you get pulled up for it. A full face helmet 'looks' far more acceptable, so if you want to cheap it out, go for a cheap full face bike helmet.

You're trying to cheap out on a full face helmet because you deem the course to be "slower" than required for a full face. Regardless of speed, do you not think its sensible to protect yourself?

It's a one time only thing to see if I like it, I'm in an ncap 5 rated car surrounded by airbags and won't be pushing too hard. If I were to decide I wanted to do it more often then I would invest. If open faced helmets were so dangerous then why do other circuits hire them out?

Thanks for pointing that out about the bike helmets, I was surprised by actually getting good advice and information! I'll only look at car ones now.

Because you can get fully competition certified open face helmets, just look at WRC.

But it won't be allowed in open cars due to no face protection, regardless of its certification.

This thread is full of good advice and information. You've just taken a bizarrely aggressive stance towards those giving it.

Again, where do I ever state I'd be in an open car? for probably the forth time I will be in my own car, it's a one time only thing trying to minimise costs to see if I like it.

Do you not see how it's frustrating for me to get answers that miss any of the points I am making, you're a prime example of the typical forum hero posting for the sake of posting.

Have a look at www.ybracing.com (Google for voucher codes as well, seen a few around in the past); can pick up a reasonable OMP open-face for £45. Obviously it's worth investing in a decent full-face (downside, it makes communicating to passengers a bit of a PITA) if you decide to do it more often but an open-face is perfectly acceptable in a closed cockpit vehicle :)

I think you need to consider your attitude to those trying to help you.
Could say the same with regards to others users here. And there wasn't any attitude from Slinkie until Housey piped up with the "But if you know best" comment.
But anyway, enough derailing.

Thread TL;DR: Helmet is looking for a helmet.

I think you need to take a look at your posts Slinkie, there's a reason it's going downhill in this thread.

Ahh well, best of luck @ the trackday anyway, should be fun :)
