I decided to upgrade the capacity on my existing RAID5 array. My existing array was made up of 4x 500GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 disks and never gave me a moments bother, so I decided to invest in 4x 1.5TB Samsung HD154UI EcoGreen F2 DT.

The drives are connected to my Highpoint RocketRAID 2310 4 Port RAID Card. With all four drives connected the array just doesn't want to initialize after creation either through the card's bios or by the windows software. It's always one drive in particular that is causing the problems with that drive disconnected the array starts gets passed 3% initialization (point when it failed).

I've connected the problem drive to my standard SATA connections on the board and I'm currently running HD Tune full Error Scan test which has already found one section of damage, do you think this would be enough to warrant an RMA?

What other tests can I run for more concrete results? None of Samsungs own testing software works with the drive as the drive is to new!

Any help would be great :)

I would say RMA it. If you have tried it in 2 seperate devices with different SATA cables (motherboard and RAID card) and it shows faults in both then that is pretty conclusive.

Yeah I think your right...I got hold of Seatools for Windows as this not only tests Seagate hard drives but it also can test any other drive by any manufacture for faults, seeing as Samsung's own diagnostic programs don't support this drive for the moment

I never tried changing the SATA cable as it's the same cable I had been using previously between the Highpoint RAID card and my old RAID5 array made up of 500GB disks which has worked without fault since day one.

Looks like it's definitely RMA time, HD Tune full error test found a bad area on the disk too.
