Help a guy out with his Ikea bed slatted base issues...

Hi,

I'm looking to get a double bed from Ikea. I have found a black-brown "Malm" frame which looks like it will do the job and will get a couple of black-brown Malm side-tables to go with it.

Only problem i have is which slatted base to get. I know i have to purchase a slatted base with the frame as it doesn't come with one and the site informs me i will need one. The reason i am confused is to do with the sizes, at first i was going to just get this one:

This one (make sure you change the drop-down on the right of the image to 140x200cm) as it is the correct width and height for the double bed i am looking to buy (140x200cm).

But i see there are plenty others, like:

This one (make sure you change the drop-down to 70x200cm), as it is half the width and i should maybe get two of them?!

The site also confused me when it says:

HAMAR midbeam keeps your mattress in place and secures the cross-braces. It is included in the price, but is packaged separately.

I was going to get it delivered to my home as none of the stuff im ordering will fit in my hatchback, so assume this HAMAR midbeam in its seperate package will be coming my way also...?

Basically, i know quite a few people shop in Ikea round these parts and remember seeing threads with the same bed in...so im hoping somebody with the bed (or similar from Ikea) will know which stooopid slats im supposed to buy...

Apologies for the thread, but thanks to anyone who can help.

Bizarrely enough, our vicar used buying a bed at Ikea as an illustration in his sermon the other week. For a double bed, you buy two of the slat sets.

Excellent, thanks for that.

Did he by any chance mention why they sell these in 140x200 (double bed) size? That's what is confusing me.

Thanks again...

He didn't mention that, no, but looking at it I'd guess it is just a different model and I figure it's better than the other one (the 70cm one that you'd need two of) as it costs about twice as much for the same amount of bed, if you follow me.

Also, I would think the Hamar thing will be delivered in two packages, as you're suspecting.

I follow you...but to be on the safe side i think i'll go with what your vicar said and order two of these, then even if i've ordered the wrong thing its only £18 instead of £35.

Many thanks :)

The bed comes with the beam

You either use 2 singles with the beam which is slightly more but helps even the mattress out when you other half is on the bed, or the double slats which is cheaper

I found the two singles (2 @ £9) were about £20 cheaper than the single larger 140x200cm ones so im quite chuffed with that...will go with them. Good stuff about the midbeam, can order it with some peace of mind now.

Thanks for the help guys :)

I ordered two singles (because it was cheaper) but I didn't get the midbeam for some reason... the slats fitted ok, but there was a gap between them, so ocassionally the slats on one side would fall through when getting in/out of bed. So I found a bit of wood in the shed and cut it to fit :)

I have that bed :D

Get a king-size duvet for it so you have plenty of left over duvet at the sides  Mid beam and double bed slats were seperate for me.

Too long ago to remember mine but I've just had a look at the slats and they are "LADE 80 x200" i.e two sets of these.

My midbeam is a DOKKA

Thanks for looking, did you get yours delivered or pickup from store? If delivered did you get the midbeam also, or if from store did you pick it up seperately?

I guess you have a slightly larger than "normal" double bed, i guess a queen size or something if you have two sets of 80x200? Meaning total width is 160cm rather than 140?

I think I picked it up however it was about 5 years ago, so tbh I can't really remember whether the midbeam came with it or not.
I suspect not though or it would have not had a named sticker on it!

and yes, it's the hooooge size bed :)

Thought as much. Have emailed Ikea to see if they ship the midbeam with their bed frames when having them delivered, but seriously doubt they'll get back to me very quickly so was hoping to find someone who has ordered one of their beds online for delivery...don't really want to pay £35 delivery and then have to drive to the store for a friggin midbeam!

Grrr, maybe i should just buy a proper bed :p :D

If you go and look at the beds then they tell you exactly what you need, I would recommend having a look before buying as I went down yesterday and they didn't look as good as they did on the website.

Thats the thing. I drove all the way to my nearest store (which isn't particularly close) to ensure that was what i wanted. Decided it was, looked at all the bits (although unfortunately missed the name of the slats it used, thus the post..!) and came home.

Now i'm annoyed because if it gets delivered and it has no midbeam i've paid £35 for delivery and will still have to go and get the midbeam, so another lovely long trip to that hell hole! :(

When I went to the store yesterday it listed this:
1 x Malm Bed £81
2 x Sultan Slats
1 x something else

Total price £110 ish.

I assume that the 1xsomething else was the midbeam, as it was located elsewere in the aisles than the rest of the bed packing as its common to several beds.

Edit: The beam will come with it, for the simple reason you cant buy it seperatly on the website.

Yup i think your right there, i suppose all i need to know is if anyone else has ordered from Ikea online (for delivery) and they received the midbeam with the frame (as everyone would need one, surely?), if no-one can confirm it and Ikea don't respond to my email i'll prob just rent a van...is a similar price to paying them for delivery.

Thanks for the help though everyone, i know about the slats now - just need to find out about the midbeam with their delivery service.
