help a macboy spec a (pc) beast!

Was just going to say don't order the Raptor X - the MTBF (meantime before failure) is half that of the non windowed version! :o

Hamish, not sure what this means. Is it going to die on me? What should I look out for?

collister - this is the cheapest system i've bought in a while :P

It means the average time before it breaks is 600,000 hours (68.5 years), whereas the normal Raptor has an MTBF double of that (1.2 million hours or 137 years).

So not exactly dangerous but I woudn't risk my data for the sake of a window :)

These instructions are relevant to more than just Arctic Silver.

Was having a few issue's trying to screw the heatsink to the motherboard, quick inspection of the screw revealed this:

It's not threaded, it's perfectly unthreaded, like it missed the machine part :( What can I do, will overclockers accept a return?

Shal I use the standard intel fan for now? Would you recommend removing the thermal paste and reapplying. Gutted at the moment.

Yes, that's a defective screw. You should send Sunbeam an email and include that photo: [email protected]

If they'll simply mail you the necessary screw that'd be easiest. If not, call up OcUK and tell them you need to RMA it.

You should put the stocker in place while you wait for the return. Clean off the heatsink sauce that's on there now with isopropyl alcohol.

cheers billy. I'll send that email and continue on.

Actually, scratch that. To put the Tuniq on you have to take out the mobo to install the backplate. You'll have to refrain from installing the mobo in the case unless you want to take it out again. :(

Here's an image of the mobo layout, if someone can circle where to place them...
It should give you detailed explanations in the mobo manual on where to place the wires. Basically they go in the pins on the bottom right corner (as shown in pic), but it varies slightly from mobo to mobo so best check your manual first.

All the SATA cabled will do the same job. From the blurry photo it looks like you've got a 90-degree cable there. That's just designed to make cable routing easier. Use whichever you prefer. You can probably use any of the SATA ports, though personally I'd put them both in the red ports.

Two six-pin connectors from the PSU will be needed for the graphics card.

IMHO some of the questions you ask can be simply answered by checking the manual(s). If you hit a snag then ask here (if a search won't suffice).

Don't forget we don't necessarily have the same hardware especially mobo. E.g. red coloured SATA connectors could indicate different features, etc. The manual should tell you what's what, unless you want to wait for someone with same mobo to come along to tell you?

Well came home drunk last night managed to set everything up. Result.

Powered up everything is fine! *Happy moment.

Until, trying to install vista onto my raptor and it's saying the drive doesn't match the criteria to install. Should I have changed something in the bios (asus pk5)?

Yey, I disabled the raid and it's working. Hopefully should get a nice clean install now.

Cheers Billy, you've been a star!

Will post pictures up in the gallery, quite pleased with my cable management :)

The 2407WFP-HC 24" is stunning!
