I've been using 3ds max for about 4 days (saw my younger bro using it thought it was awesome :D ). This is my first attempt at modeling and its no way near finished but because i bought the hairtrix plugin i thought i give it a wirl. The problem is that the hair doesnt show in the shadow or reflection, any ideas why

Really sorry if this is a stupid question but this is my first 3d modeling program and i looked all over the net for help with hairtrix but couldn't find it.

,thx

What renderer are you using? You know 3dsmax has an extensive hair and fur plugin already built in?

thats exactly what I was thinking.

Probably a setting or the plugin isn't really suited to the version of 3ds max you're using

cheers for all your help :)

I'm used both default and mental ray but same thing. The 3ds hair and fur plugin does work fine but i wanted to see if hairtrix could be made to work as it seemed like a decent plugin for hair as well as quite easy to get to grips with, oh well :( .

1 more stupid question i know but how can you make the hair longer with 3ds built in plugin because i cant seems to see it

,thxs for the help so far

I have no artistic skill - will I be able to create similar stuff to the OP quite easily if I got 3dstudio max?

Been wanting to try it for years, but always got scared off!

Only one way to find out.
I wouldn't recommend going straight into characters straight away, you'll improve quicker learning 3D Studio Max doing industrial stuff first and learning your way through what things do.

Stuff like shop fronts, then full buildings are the best way of learning, then moving onto things with curves and bends etc...

Buy one of the fundamentals books, I found them truly brilliant when I was learning.

If you're really determined to do a character straight away (I don't recommend it), then search for the "Joan of Arc" tutorial.
