i got arma II for free in that deal with green man gaming, but im having an absolute nightmare with the helicopters. the problem im finding is theres about half a billion buttons i need to press all at once to get this thing to move properly and none of them are within easy reach. usually this will end up with the helicopter looking like its in a major storm when im trying to land

the easiest solution to all this would be to map all the vehicle controls onto my xbox controller, but i have absolutly no idea what half the stuff does, and if i will be needing it later.

so, can someone recommend a controller setup for the xbox controller for all the vehicles in ARMA II please.

thanks

Its hardly a flight simulator

Q to go up/go more fast
Z to go down/slow down
W to bank forwards
A to bank left
D to bank right
S to bank backwards

...thats it. Q and Z also controls the throttle, it couldnt be any easier. If youre having problems with keeping a steady and stable flight path, try practising offline with the armory.

Really all the keys are in one place.

W S A D Q A C X I think they are.

yes, thats my point. 9 keys and a mouse just to control movement for someone who has only recently started PC gaming. the xbox controller would make things far easier for me, but im not sure how best to set it up because i dont know what half the controls do yet

The only thing thats difficult is landing planes, you need a flat long strip (ooo-er) and patience.

i havent even tried landing planes. helicopters is difficult enough for me

never mind the armoury, im having trouble with the tutorial. keeping a stable flight path is resonably easy for me but its the landing i have problems with. i can do it easily enough given a lot of time and sick bags, but anyone watching would think the helo has been hit

Ah yes thats right it acts as the rudder.

I dont use the rudder though and find it fine without.

rudder is very useful for slight turns, especially while landing. also its for compensating for crosswinds while landing (not sure if the game has that though). not sure what its used for in helo's though

the only recent game ive played with planes is just cause 2, and i can tell you a rudder would be very useful in that

anyone got any advice for an xbox control setup, or am i just going to have to wing it?
(u see whut i did thar?)

thats why they put auto landings in?? you shouldn't ever need to try and manually land the planes.

also with copters most servers i know restrict the use of air quite heavily and for good reason so that new players don't go crashing/wasting them. I would just focus more on the ground stuff than air if your new and want to get into mp stuff without getting kicked.

just had a go with the plane and its just as impossible as the helicopter. i can fly a real plane quite happily*. admittedly it wasnt a VTOL, but i could fly the thing easily. i think the problem is me just not liking the controls on the game as im finding them clunkier than falling down the stairs

im so glad i didnt pay for this game

*not officially, but i did a one off junior flying experience and after half an hour the instructor was doing nothing except the radio

I bound throttle up to W down to S, A and D to rudder and use the mouse for pitch and roll. Works a charm and as soon as you are used to your mouse sensitivity it should be easy as pie.

I tried using my x52 for flying with mouse emulation but you just can't be as accurate as you can with a mouse.
