Hopefully you guys aren't tired of posts like this by now but I've pieced together a list of components for my first build. I'd be much obliged if all you guys who know what you're doing could give it the once over and let me know if I'm choosing things that won't piece together as easy as lego!

I'm aware of the bios issues with the Asus mobo. Will probably wait until the first people are trying their retail Conroes in them before ordering. If it is still a problemo I'll be getting the DFI Infinity 975X instead.

Thanks for your help guys

As above a 2.1 speaker system would be far better especially as your spending a decent amount on speakers anyway. I'm not sure what the best going are at the moment but someone will be able to advise you.

It looks pretty good overall although I'd probably suggest GSkill for the Ram as it is at very good prices just now and excellent Ram so I hear. I'd also change the DVDRW for an NEC or maybe Pioneer but that might just come down to personal preference.

Firstly, thanks for your suggestions guys.

I hadn't really given that much thought to a 2.1 speaker system. I have a pretty budget pair of 2.0 speakers hooked up to my current system and I've used them since the days a Pentium 100 was considered fast! They have decent bass and I presumed if I spent a bit on a pair of 2.0 speakers it would be sufficient. However, now you've mentioned it, if I can get a nice 2.1 set for similar money it would make a lot of sense. Can anyone recommend a quality 2.1 set that wouldn't increase my spend too much?

As for the RAM I'm just interested in a quality brand that won't break the bank. The two makes that sprung out from these forums were Corsair and Gskill, so yeah, I'll check out the 'skill and see if I can save a few pennies, thanks!

Edit: GeIL RAM has been recommended to me too. How does this brand compare to Gskill?

The DVDRW choice was based upon the LG super multi drive I use currently. About a year or two ago I read a few reviews that praised the LG and I've been happy with it since. I haven't taken the time to re-review the more recent reviews though. Are the NEC and Pioneer drives better quality these days? If so I could be persuaded to switch, I am as fickle as the next discerning consumer!

Purchased the LG drive you intend to buy not all that long ago and more than happy with it. ;)

For speakers, I'd go for the Logitech Z-4s. Logitech speakers have always been very impressive in my experience with various sets. The X-530s are a very good 5.1 set too (and they don't cost much), but OC don't seem to sell them anymore.

I'm convinced on the Z-4s, consider the list changed! However, I have one of those rooms that gives you a headache when you start thinking how to place tons of little speakers all around you, so 2.1 is as extravagant as I'm going to get!

Tried and tested = Good news.

Thanks guys.
