After leaving Virgin I now have 4 months to switch my NTL email to my Gmail email address but I have ran into a problem.
I've tried to add my Gmail but I get the error message in the 2nd picture.
Any idea why I can't add it, could it be because some hacker tried has tried to use it?
If they have could I get it back for me with proof?

You should be able to go to the MS website and check I forgot my password, as long as you have access to the Gmail account, you will be able to get in. You must have registered something to do with Microsoft in the past.

Yes I registered my NTL many years ago.
It won't allow me to add my Gmail.
I made a Microsoft one on Saturday.
I'm worried if I log out of windows I might not get back in.

i had a similar problem when i moved away from BT Broadband. tried to 'move' my @btinternet.com email, got the same issues. 4 years later my BT email is still working despite them telling me on multiple occasions that i either had to pony up 5 quid a month or they would close it. probably not a whole lotta help mind you :p

I've never added my Gmail account but I want to but it won't let me.
What I'm saying is, that you may have inadvertently done it in the past, through some MS partner, Xbox etc. They clearly have it registered to something, so if you have access to the email you should be able to get into the account by doing a password reset.

It can't be if I've never added my Gmail it ever and it won't let me add it now.

Whether you added it, someone you know added it, some random lunatic used it, it was for another service you didn't even realise was connected to Microsoft, what Chris is saying is go to the 'I forgot my password' section, put in your GMail and let it reset the password - you can then log into that account and perhaps find out what/how/who/why it's already registered with Microsoft.

Once you've done that, you might then be able to move on to adding it / merging it with the account you're trying to sort out.

It clearly says that the email address is already taken

AKA someone has created an acc with it

If it's your email then the info above by ChrisD whould allow you to correct this, pass reset and "claim" it I woudl expect

So this is my new problem that is worrying me

Top picture my Computer login screen
Bottom screen my new outlook address which I want to use as my PC login email
How do I get my PC login to be the Microsoft one?

With Microsoft, you have to add a new email account you've added as the primary. Once it's added as the primary, you'll be able to remove the secondary (which would be the original email).

Then also add 2FA if you haven't.

I think I know what to do, I've got to change it in my PC Settings.

maybe not :)
WTF
How do I change it so it shows my Outlook address on my screen?

Update, I've now added the Microsoft email on my PC so a lot closer.

The work logins now function thru the microsoft 2FA shenans utter ball ache lol

Either I'm misunderstanding this or a lot of you guys are misunderstanding this.

An alias is an additional name, using Microsoft domains, for an existing Microsoft account.

You can't use a gmail or NTL email address as an alias for a Microsoft account. It even says they "share the same password", which should be a big clue...!

Scratch that, you can. How freaking weird! What is the purpose of giving your MS account an @gmail domain alias? I'm confused!

e: Microsoft's docs are legendarily bad. I'm always more confused after reading them than before...

e2: Help me out, here? So associate a @gmail email address with your MS account, allowing you to sign in with your MS account using that email, but the pass for your MS account.

You then get access to your MS emails, not your @gmail emails. You can send email spoofing your @gmail address, but then if the recipient replies, it goes to your @gmail not your MS Outlook account? Eh?

I must have that wrong!

I had Windows 10 when it came out (and this probably goes back to 1998 on all Windows) that I only ever had an NTL email setup for my Windows.
For the first time on Saturday I made my first Microsoft email account.

I've still got so many questions to ask but I'll wait until I get home because it's doing my head in.
eg I've been all over the Microsoft Webpage, I've Google'd but I can't see anywhere on that site that shows my two alias email addresses - NTL and Gmail.
