Help after being on remand and being found not guilty.

Do you think there should be help for people who have been remanded in prison then found not guilty?

Anyone who has been on remand and found not guilty are realised without any help or money. They get less help than people found guilty and then released at the end of their sentence. During this time people often lose their jobs and home.

On average 12000 people a year are put in prison before being found not guilty.

This seems very unfair to me.

That said, I do agree that there should be, I did think that there was, there definitely is if you are imprisoned and then released if your conviction is overturned.

So if you were accused of something and held on remand only to be found not guilty, you wouldn't have a problem with it because other people in the same boat might have done something wrong? :confused:

What I implied was most of these people who are found not guilty is down to things like evidence going missing.

I do have sympathy for those who actually did nothing wrong.

I don't need to know any he was found not guilty by a British court and that means he was innocent of all crimes he was charged with.

Right, and that means he wasn't doing anything suspicious to land himself in that situation in the first place or as said above things like evidence going missing or witnesses withdrawing so he can't be found guilty even though he may of committed a crime?

No, as I'm not saying that's what happened with the OP. However I don't for a second believe most of these 12,000 people a year who land themselves in jail to be found not guilty did nothing at all wrong.

It means he (assuming the OP has actually been on remand) was found not guilty, which doesn't necessarily mean innocence.

No one is claiming all 12000 were innocent. Just like not all people found guilty turn out to have committed the crime. Most people believe someone did it when they are found guilty

I don't agree that most cases where people are found not guilty are because of evidence going missing or witnesses not showing up. A lot of times the evidence isn't strong enough.

In my opinion it's unacceptable to put someone in prison who are then found not guilty and not a give them the same support that people found guilty get on release (at the very least)

There is no need to cast aspersions about anyone found not guilty, however thep02 you are wrong, not guilty does not always mean innocent, except in the eyes on the law.
