Help after moving HDD SATA position

Hi - I recently managed to get an nvidia 3080 due to a minor miracle! I have a mid atx case, and to fit it in I had to move a couple of hard drives round. One ended up getting removed altogether (legacy storage only) and I think that the other drive is now plugged in to a new SATA position.

Turning computer on works, I can get into windows, but only use very few programs (chrome, Windows explorer etc). I cannot open nvidia experience, steam, or even click the windows button in the bottom left.

I've opened windows explorer and clicked "my PC" and it's showing all the drives, I can navigate round, but there is a constant loading bar in the address bar.

I guess my question is whether the computer is reorganising itself to account for the sata change, or if I've done any damage? My processor is an i7-10700kf, so no inbuilt gfx, so I presume that the gpu must be working as I'm able to get into windows and use chrome at the very least.

Just after reassurance that this is expected if sata position is changed, please let me know if any other info would be helpful.

Yep, tried that with no joy. I am able to see what is on the hard drive, but trying to access any of the files is impossible. I'm wondering if the hard drive itself has failed...

I have a desktop background set up which is stored on the hdd. When the pc boots it loads the image, then 95 percent of it is covered in little grey squares.

One further point is that when I shut the computer down, it comes out of Windows and seems to close everything, but does not stop and turn off. All fans stay on etc, just nothing happening.

Solved - Unplugging one of the optical drives seems to have done the trick. Quite why this is I'm not sure, but everything is now working exactly as it should be. I guess when plugging everything back into the motherboard I plugged the CD drive and hard drive into each other's original port... Still not sure why I was able to see what was on the hard drive, but not use any of it though. Ah well, all working now and better than ever!
