Help! All games freeze for 1 second?

Every so often I'd say around once every hour to two hours my game will freeze for a second, and then continue. I don't think it drops to 1fps and i think it just freezes.

What should I try to do to solve this? it has a very very slight over clock (Core 50+ Memory 45+)

I removed the overclock but still get the same issue, I will try update my GPU drivers (What is the best way of doing this, going to the site or downloading some software which scans for the latest and installs?)

Also happens when just running one card and not running SLI as I thought this was the issue at first.

If I can't get anything to work then I will do a fresh OS install.

Thanks guys

do a memtest and a hard drive check.

Download the latest Nvidia drivers directly from Nvidia.

Make sure you have the latest chipset driver from AMD installed too.

Disk activity? I was trying to do very intensive disk stuff on my SSD and my games would freeze like this often. If you have a second monitor, put Resource Monitor on it and check for any weird disk activity when it happens.

Are the games freezing or just not updating the display?

I very occasionally (3-4 times a month) have the issue where the display does not update for a second, though the game/software continue to run without a hitch. I have wondered if it's down to Firefox with hardware acceleration enabled, or perhaps EVGA's precision X which randomly disappears from the system tray every few days. I don't power off my PC often, but I find a reboot clears the issue.

Precision is not a required software it’s just for overclocking or monitoring. Closing it has no effect on anything... would doubt its Firefox either to be honest.

Check you have the latest motherboard bio's. All the brands have updates, I've got the 1600x as well and all the motherboard models I've seen require a bios update which you can find on the brands websites.

Although I never stated that Precision is required, it is if you want a custom fan profile with an EVGA 1080Ti FTW3. There have been several issues with Firefox & hardware acceleration over the years. I listed both as anything accessing the video card at the same time may cause it to glitch. Another utility that I use that may also be responsible is f.lux, which sets the colour levels depending on the time of day.

Brand new memory due to old memory wasn't working that I bought off here.

Also use Chrome, will test memory tonight and let you guys know.
