after closer inspection we manage to salvage some of my sons pc..

its an a10 7850k with 4gb 1600 ram.

hes currently complaining that the fps drops to late 40s/early 50s occasionaly in cs/go.

he has £100 to upgrade what would be the best option for him

A) 8gb 2400 ram and an r7 250 for dual graphics as i read the 2400 ram could poss give as much as 10-12 fps keeping him at 60fps plus small boost from the hybrid crossfire

B) friend has offered a gigabyte 760 for £70. only problem is he has a corsair rm430 psu and doesnt think he can stretch to a new psu for 2-3 weeks.

also cs go is literally the only game he plays bar civ5 and cod MW so hes not looking to run gta5 etc maxed out.

games at 1080p

TIA for any advice

for that budget you can get a 750Ti which is powered from the mobo so shouldn't require a new PSU and best bang for buck

CS GO and CiV5 are 2 games CPU intensive.
750Ti should perform better than APU graphic, low wattage, so it's a good pick, but still not sure he would get rid of the fps drop altogether though.

he actually was gaming with the 860k and 260x until a week or so ago and always had rock solid 60fps in both games

260X is the exact same performance as the 750Ti or even a bit faster than the latter, the GTX760 uses about 160-180watt top so the system should be well under 400watt, so option B is possible
i wouldn't take option A, because 250 isnt that good performer, and i wouldn't consider dual graphic for games like CS GO, crossfire often has issues like stutter and stuff like that, and that would be really frustrating in competitive games.
yes memory frequency gives decent boost for APUs, but is it worth buying new Ram, i dont think so, i would rather just overclock the one i have the best i can, if the PSU/Mobo allow it

A7850+260x i think thats enough to keep fps at 60 without dips if he tweaks better his settings

his card died hence this thread about the gtx 760
