Hi there guys, today I received my new PC parts which I ordered from Overclocker.

My previous build was a Q6600 3 years ago and it went well, not a single issue, however, today I am just mind boggled as to what is up.

Symptom:

Turn on the pc, no beeps, no display, all the fans that are directly connected to the motherboard start up. The CPU fan also starts. The fans connected to the variable fan speed controller don't spin though.

I tried taking out all the memory sticks in the hope of forcing a beep but nothing.

PC Specification:

1 x Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366)
1 x Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
1 x Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB
1 x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C9 1600MHz Triple Channel
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 700W Power Supply
Fractal Design Define R2 Midi Tower Case
Fractal Design 140mm x 2 at top and 1 on bottom
Fractal Design 120mm x 2 at front + 1 at back
1 x 500gb Hitachi HDD (previous HDD)
1 x 1000gb Hitachi HDD (previous HDD)
1 x DVDRW (SATA)

Unless I am missing something though, I believe all of that should work together (or so I was advised it will no issue)

Are both the 24pin and 2x4pin PSU power connections connected to the motherboard?

Do you see anything on screen?

That stuff will indeed work together, the problem is either a problem with construction or a pre-existing fault with one of the components.

Thank you for the swift reply Cmdnr_Andi.

I have nothing at all the display (BENQ 22") just stays in it's "sleep" mode as in not receiving a signal.

The modular cables are:
2 x 4 pin to the top of the mobo
1 x 24 (I think, I have a large block and a single 4, but all the slots are full) to the side of the mobo
1 x 6pin to the graphics card (has a 6pin connector).
1 x SATA to the harddrives,
1 x SATA to the DVD drive
1 x 4pin molex to the fan controller

The graphics card fan also spins, however, I don't have any spare PC to test individual parts with currently. (using my brothers old laptop).

You may want to try each RAM stick on its own.

Which PCIex16 slot did you put the 5770 in? Is it the blue on nearest the top?

Also, have you confirmed that the 22in display is working OK (if this is new as well) ? You should be able to connect it to the laptop you are currentlu using to test it.

As for the connections you have made so far - they all sound correct.

Finally, can I just confirm that you did use motherboard stand-offs to mount the motherboard in the case, not just screwed the motherboard directly to the metal case?

Yeah tried each stick 1 by 1 nothing changes between them. Fired it up with 0 sticks in and still nothing there. (Does the mobo tells you if it can't find RAM?)

The display was my old one previously which does indeed work with the laptop.

Yes there are stand off's between the motherboard and the case with screws between the mobo and stand offs.

Guess I am up for ripping everything apart and trying again, any suggestions on what else it could be? CPU?

If I have problems I try and connect the least amount of hardware up to see if it will post so cpu, gfx, memory disconnect everything else. If it still doesn't post check ram individually, clear cmos, check no shorts with standoffs.

Might be worth taking a few photos of your system connections (motherboard mainly) so we can help you make sure nothing has been missed.

Do you have any spare PC parts or parts that you can borrow so you can do some tests to see what is causing the issue?

Can you remove it all and build it outside the case just to rule out any shorting of anything?

I would assume it okay to place the motherboard on a piece of cardboard save it scratching the table?

If so then yes doing this now then I try and take pictures and upload them for you to see.

Not the best quality pictures, mobile phone + energy saving lights in every room :<

Overall: http://img826.imageshack.us/i/overallr.jpg/
24pin: http://img19.imageshack.us/i/24pin.jpg/
HDD: http://img825.imageshack.us/i/hddsata.jpg/

Same again, only thing in there, is the CPU, 1 stick of ram (cycled through none work), 1 HDD, keyboard + mouse. both 24pin + 2 x 4pin reconnected.

The Motherboard has a on-board power on/off so I didn't have to connect the front I/O section from the case. Again, the CPU fan works, the graphics card fan works, I hear the harddrive vibrate.
:(

/edit: turned off the PSU switch, and the keyboard lights flashed just before the board powered down if that helps / mean anything.

And you dont have any other parts, another graphics card would be handy

Actually I do have a 1650 in the mothers case, she only uses it to play farmville *tried*

No, but the fan sped up so quick it is unreal, made a screezing noise. Even tried booting up without the GFX card in as I know for a fact it should beep if it don't detect a card. But again nothing.

Are the modular PSU wires in the correct location on the psu? there is a diagram on the PSU

Yes no doubts about it.

I do have a 1000w Coolermaster sitting in the cupboard, but the reason it's there as the old computer kept frying 8800gtx's and we couldn't work out if it was the mobo or PSU doing it.

From the pictures, its difficult to tell - but are the RAM sticks in securely with the white tabs locked in place?

Yeah I hear it click, and the white tabs can't go down any more :S

Guess tomorrow I phone them up and see what they can do for me, no point me sending the case and the fans I payed for back as well they can't really go wrong.

Leaves the graphics card, CPU, motherboard, memory and powersupply though.

*shrugs*

Brought a tear to my eye spending £850 only for it to not work and no idea what is the real issue. :<

The white tabs dont go down they lift up as you insert it and they lock into the sides of the RAM. In the picture above they definately look odd to me to, saying that I am due an eye test soon so doesnt mean much lol.

Dave.
