Ok this is to replace my aging q6600 rig. I ebayed my gfx card several months ago because I was studying. This is primarily for online gaming, office and tinternet. I don't do anything fast or with images so I guess I don't need an i7.

I have not played BF3 yet I have been doing exams! I loved COD4 and I am in a gaming clan.

I plan to add 4x HDD in Raid 10 to protect my 'work' data in the future. I have a screen but would like advice about the keyboards and mice you rate.

I have a Logitech s510 (ace) and a Razer Lachesis (good)

I am gaming at 1900x1200, as an aging gaming I am in the lucky position that I can write this off as a business expense, I can get any GFX set up but I like value.

I would like your motherboard advice.

Thrown in SLI 570 as a superb cost/performance value purchase and wonder what you Pro's suggest. I appreciate the new AMD is out very shortly look forward to reading your views.

Finally, may I wish you all a Happy New Year and all the best in 2012. The service from OC rocks and I have enjoyed posting my dodgy advice and reading here for the last few months, including Mr Fowler's special edgy posts!

KK here is my starting point:

:p

Other than the case which looks more like a fridge :p and the SSD which will be full after installing two games, everything looks pretty good :) Motherboard wise, go for a decent Z68 Gen3 board. The MSI or ASUS ones are good.

I would ditch the extra 570 and get a 3gb 580!. My 580 plays everything at 1080p silky smooth. Not all games support sli! Too so sometimes your just wasting power, You might only just be ok with that power supply too, especially if you overclock things.

the main points are:
- you'll want a graphics card with at least 2GB VRAM, seeing that BF3 can eat up 1800MB of that
- bigger SSD will be wanted as well
- for the motherboard you cant beat the Asrock Z68 extreme 4 gen3
- the case is fine. personally i dont like it, but if you like it thats all that matters. personally i prefer the silverstone raven 2, especially in white

The Hilton called, they want their mini bar back ;)

unless you're a nvidia fanboy wait for the 7970, 570 sli will be more expensive and not that much more faster than the 7970.

Cool, the white case was primarily to wind Mr Fowler up, it worked! Mr F I was trying to PM this link to you but couldn't figure out how to here, you may find it interesting: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/guides/2011/12/ars-technica-system-guide-december-2011.ars

I took a look at the Raven 2, nice quiet case, not sure it is big enough for all the planned drives. Have you built with it?

Bigger SSD check, mb check, mouse looks good.

Thanks so far. Keep the advice coming....

Your 480 won't acheive 60fps which is considered the required amount, some say 30 is enough but on the whole 60 is best. battlefield 3 is no real GPU stresser. think metro 2033 and a few more need more vram. I was playing crysis 2 on ultra settings with my old gtx295 at 35-40fps and it looked ace
