HELP ATI driver problem

hi guys got an x1950 pro today went to install the drivers on the disc after unistalling my nvidia graphics i restarted it boots then the windows xp logo goes as if its just about to go into windows then i get a black screen, i have formatted and installed the new 7.4 catalyst drivers but im still getting black screens is it because i have nvdia chipset? please help im screaming at my computer ive tried everything and its doing my nut in.

downloaded an omega driver and it works ok atm but it still says power save for like 10 secs on bootup whats up with the official drivers how come they dont work?, ive read nothing but prase for the current ati drivers

so let me get this straight, you've formatted your system completely

now when you formatted, did the problem with the graphics and the black screen appear straight away, or only once you had installed the ATI 7.4 drivers ?

if its causing blackscreen problems even before you've loaded the drivers, you've got a faulty connection, or a faulty graphics card.

no it was just when i installed the drivers

ive had it happen when the card wasnt seated quite right in the slot, smargart couldnt enable agp read/writes . maybe similar issue here ?

the strainge thing is it works fine with the omega drivers its just i need the ati control panel for multi monitors and OCing

Can you not do that with ATi Tray Tools like you can use that for all your AA/AF etc... settings instead of the CCC.

yeah i suppose but im stuck with old drivers arent i using catalyst 7.0

what about the ATI 7.3 drivers ?

do those cause you to bomb out on install ?

well tbh i dont see much piont trying them unless there were changes dropped from 7.4 the cd came with 7.1 which also gives me a black screen
