built new conroe system

stuck in two hard disks, raptor, and WD

all boots nicely....
win setup XP shows both unpartitioned drives and is asking if I want to create a partition, press C for creat and I ask to make a full partition and nothing?

am i getting confused - i seem to remember first using FDISK years ago??

what do i do?
 
Depends what you want really. I assume you want to run windows on the Raptor in which case the easiest way of doing it really is to unplug the other disk and run through the setup again. When you get to the partitioning point choose to create a partition for windows on the Raptor and with the size it suggests, that'll be the full size of the disk.

Once windows is fully installed (including SP2) then shut down and plug the other disk back in, head into the Disk Management control panel thingy and partition as you see fit.
 
well I go to creat partition, its says type in a size and tghe default is the full size ie 143087, press enter, says WAIT and then goes back to creat screen showing the unpartitioned drive still...am i missing something at first boot in the bios or something?

gone back to bios, raptor is on third ide master, 320wd is on 4th ide slave (@these are the sata ports - using P5W DH btw.

does this need 3rd party sata drivers?

edit. reboot seems to have done the trick for some reason - its now formatting "C" - thanks, got a bit panicky

Sounds like your doing everything right, if you needed drivers or BIOS tweaks to access the disks you wouldn't have gotten this far.

Normally it asks what size you want the partition, you press enter and then it should go onto the page asking whether it should be formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. No idea why you're stuck in a loop.

my second hard drive is not showing in windows explorer?

I don't think its partitioned even - its listed under devices however - what do i do, format it somehow through windows?

lol, ive forgotten everything!

ps. and setting up the machine 'how you are used to it' is a nightmare!

ok, I have the C: raptor and the two DVD drives but no 320 drive.

However it is listed as unpartitioned in the bottom window but I cant seem to do anything with it?
