I used to be a big gamer back in the Half Life 2 Era but haven't really got back into it as whenever I would buy a game like COD (COD 4: MW was the last one I played!) it would be pretty much unplayable on my laptop.

So after a few beers last night with a friend, I decided to get back into it and buy myself a gaming rig for around £1000-1200. As a big fan of OC UK I definitely want them to build and overclock it, maybe even watercooled if the budget stretches that far!

I already have a Dell monitor which runs at 2048*1152 so it would be great if any game can easily run at this resolution.

If anyone can help me with some potential spec ideas that would be great.

Cheers! :p

I like Zakks top build..

If you were to build it yourself (just giving you the option) you could have something like this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games £224.99
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £187.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x XFX Pro Series 750W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £84.98
1 x Plextor M5S 128GB Solid State Drive - (PX-128M5S) £82.99
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £59.99
1 x Toshiba (7K1000.D) 1TB SATA 6GB/s 32MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA100) HDD £59.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 200R Compact ATX Case - Black £49.99
2 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £41.99 (£83.98)
1 x OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £16.99
Total : £978.38 (includes shipping : £11.25).

If you do fancy an upgrade in a year or two, just throw another 7950 in.. (you won't be able to do that with the builds above)...

And you have £200 for more beer.. :)

Thanks very much for the suggestions.

One question, is the Nvidia option (like the 670) on par with the Radeon 7950 card?

The 670 is faster but (if you were buying one individually) the 7950 is better value for money..

Nvidia Drivers are also less buggy..

Can't lose either way. :)

if anything if your using a dual setup, the sli drivers have far more bugs in them than any crossfire setup drivers, or so says steam forums, and many many others.

not that matter much to me as i only use a single amd card so no worries there, and only a few times a year have any real bug problems with them, normally a gaming issue not driver one for me, as i game updates fixes it, not a driver one, most driver updates now days seem to speed up games, not fix that many bugs.....

I have just got one of these last week and its very nice.

You can't add another 670 on that system, the PSU won't take it..

You won't need another 670 anyway, should handle that res perfectly. :)

Correct. The GTX 670 is pretty potent as it is. You will have more than enough performance for gaming :)

Odd resolution monitor though if I do say so myself.

The monitor is a Dell SP2309W.

Guess it is an odd res but from what I have read this afternoon most games will run fine. Although this could be a good excuse to get a new monitor too ;)

Hey, thought i'd put my thoughts in on this one. Doomspeeds build is pretty much excatly what I got from Oc.uk only last week.

Only different is that I got a i7 @4Ghz instead of and i5 (there's very little different between the two except the price) and went with the 256 gb SSD (already half full with installed games). I also put everything in a Crosair 400R, not the 200R. Both very good cases still, the 400R have nice spacings thou and since I'm new to moding I like the extra space when going at the insides. I plan to add another 7950 and extra fans lik doom said once I get the money together.

I couldn't be happier with the way its running! I got Far Cry 3 yesterday and I'm playing it with settings completely maxed out, getting 55-60+ FPS smooth as silk. I'd recommend it myself!
If your not too confident with the whole building process too Overclockers will do it for you, complete system build, any overclocking you want, stress tested and cable managed all for the excellent price of £95 with a two year warranty on the build. Well worth it for a top notch proffessional build!

and you'd still have £105 for beer, plenty enough to celebrate your new toys' arrival :D
