HELP! BT: Getting <2 Mbps on one device only

Hasn't the OP basically confirmed that the Powerline adapters aren't to blame in this case?

If booting into safe mode fixes the problem then it's just a software issue.

Yeah like I mentioned before, on boot I get the full 17Mbps then suddenly 1.7Mbps so I think your right it may be software since I've tried a direct line of cat 6 to a gigabit port and I get the same speed but the cable is not ideal since I means I have to run it through 2 doors and that means leaving the doors open so yeah.

EDIT:
also like mentioned above speed is fine in safe mode

reinstall windows :P

It's worth taking a moment to double check everything first. I'd open Device Manager and uninstall the drivers for the NIC, choosing to delete any downloaded driver files cached in Windows. Then refresh/check for hardware changes and allow Windows to install its own driver for the interface.

It could be that the Intel driver is screwy or similar. If that didn't work upgrade to the newest Intel driver you've already downloaded (and saved hopefully!) and try other options such as removing the AV/firewall, checking for malware using a decent scanner like Tiranium Cloud, HitMan Pro and MalwareBytes.

It's just as likely that by reinstalling Windows and adding in his current preferred software set and drivers that the problem would simply reappear. Better to troubleshoot it and weed out the actual cause imho. That or just install Linux and not have to worry lol

Right this is sounding good I shall reinstall the NIC drivers but the weird thing is I just got in and fired up the PC and here was my speed test result?

But I bet in about an hour or so I will dip down again but i shall try this method before a reinstall of windows and if it does dip again ill edit the post and post another speed test result after reinstalling drivers.

EDIT: I'm on Win8 so is a "refresh" worth a try? thanks

Sorry for the double post but could this Teredo thing have anything to do with it, I've had this flagged up for a while and i couldnt find a driver for it? thanks

Are you only taking speedtest.net as your cause for concern? It may be worth confirming these 'low' speed test results by downloading an Ubuntu torrent (which will max your line speed, whatever it is). Also try the test at ThinkBroadband.com as that's usually spot on even for 120Mbps+ connections.

If you're seeing full speeds atm I'd hold fire and not do anything unless you have to. It could be you've already 'fixed' the issue (if there actually is one) and if not it might be something unrelated to your PC.

That's built into the OS and is MS's IPv6 tunnelling over IPv4 adapter. It shouldn't be missing a driver as it comes with Windows! Try uninstalling it and refreshing, and see if Windows reinstalls the driver properly for it.

Yeah un-installed it and scanned for hardware changes and it never came back, so i cant reinstall it? Not that i think its too important right?

Well i'v been using YouTube as a benchmark also for example usually I can load up a 1080p video no problem with no buffering issues but suddenly I can't even load 480p but at the same time i can go onto my phone or tablet and load the same video at 1080p with no Issues
I will hold fire for about an hour or so because that's when speeds start to drop and if nothing happens then ill will get back to you and post results, for now i'll post the thinkbroadband results

21Mbps down and 1Mbps up isn't too bad for an ADSL2+ line (which I assume you have). In fact it's about the max throughput you'd expect on such a line. If/when you reboot your computer the tunnelling adapter will likely come back. You don't need it though unless you're specifically and consciously using IPv6 for any reason. I automatically disable it after installing Windows as it's a potential security leak using VPNs. Don't worry about it.

Yeah im stuck on ADSL2+ wont get fibre untill may :/ Anyway,
these are my normal expected speeds which is strange because last night, which was the last time i was on the PC, speeds were awfully slow like i said in the OP I got 1.7Mbps so i will se if in about an hour or so the speed drops off but all other devices are getting good speeds, so ill let you know if that happpens again.
Like you said i might have fixed it without even knowing about it?

Ok so looks like i spoke too soon, Speed was fine the whole of last night then today I can't even load 360p on youtube and heres a speedtest.net reuslt and think broadband

Yeah it' still wired Speed seems to come back after turning off energy efficient Ethernet and resetting the adapter but why should i have to do this?

Green ethernet / power efficiency is supposed to adjust power usage depending on cable length etc, but it's not something that is wonderfully accurate especially with crummy drivers. If that's all it takes to fix the issue leave it off and have done. It's disabled by default on the Intel and Realtek drivers I've seen anyway, there'll be no harm done (quite the contrary).

Well the strange thing was that I turned it off last night then today it was back on!? along with wake on lan and wake on magic packet were all enabled?

Perhaps Windows has updated the driver and reset the settings in the process? If not and it's a driver issue (i.e. if it happens again after you swap back again now), then try a different driver. Either Windows-supplied or OEM supplied, depending on which you're already using.

Yeah I may try and install the Intel driver which shouldnt have had any problems in the first place
