Help build in progress stuck...

front usb labelled hd audio?? if the ac 97 just goes.......nowhere. just tape it up outta the way

sorry my post don't really make much sense!! ,

what i meant was that if you had already connected the hd audio usb to the motherboard audio header then you don't need the ac 97 lead

There will be a front panel audio header on the motherboard if you are using onboard audio, and if you are using a dedicated soundcard, it will plug on there.

The connector is 5 pins wide and 2 pins deep, with 1 pin missing on 1 side

i.e

. . . - .
. . . . .

where - is the missing pin.

If however you have connected an hd audio connection already, then don't bother as it's one or the other

AC97 is the header for the microphone and headphone connections on the front of your case.

It connects to your sound card or the audio header on your motherboard if you're using the built in audio.

Part of the headphone and microphone jacks on the front panel. There should be a header on the board that it plugs into. On my current mobo it was labeled F_AUDIO and was right next to the audio jacks on the mobo itself.

hd audio and usb are totally seperate, you will only confuse lol.

If you won't be plugging anything into the front panel audio jacks then you can tape it up, yes.
