First go. Is there anythin on the list you don't need.

ive found the following spec for total of £680:

Gigabyte Triton GZ-XX1CA-SNB Black
Corsair Powersupply 520W Black, ATX/EPS,
ABIT IB9, P965, Socket-775, GbLAN,
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz Socket
Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2, 2048MB CL5
Point of View GeForce 8800GTS 320MB,
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA2
NEC DVD±RW burner AD-5170 IDE Black OEM,

recommended?

I would probably swap the ABIT IB9, P965, Socket-775, GbLAN, for the Gigabyte GA_P35C_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard instead since it support both DDR2 and DDR3 plus it will support the next generation of Intel processors, so you might not have to change Mobo again later on! ;) Its around £30 more both I think it will be worth it in the end..

Also, I would change the HDD to a Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache. In my opinion the WD is far better then a Seagate.. more reliable and more quiet then a Seagate..

Not seen the Gigabyte Triton, so not sure if it will be big enough for a GTS, [and was not able to find a review that used a GTS, all used ATI cards.. :(] but I am sure someone will point it out if its not suitable, or have a look at this site where you can see cases that a GTS will fit in..

Hope that helps a bit!

Cheers
Tom

This is what ive narrowed it down to, but ive been reading up on price reductions on the horizon with the conroe!
Should i wait, will it be a significant drop.
Hows the spec looking now, im hoping the psu is powerfull enough as im allready strecthing the budget.

Don't worry about the PSU - its first class, it'll do the job easy enough. Spec looks good. Price drops happen on July 22nd, might be worth waiting till then if you can.

You could always go for a E2140 - £50 and with an after market cooler you'd hit 6600 speeds easy.

ive changed it around a bit again, mainly the case and memory.

Originally i had a Lian Li PC7 with a corsair 520w psu.
But i would like to keep my costs down if possible, so have taken a liking to the Antec Sonata 3. This comes with the 500w psu.
Would this do the job for me? as the money saved would really help me out.
Take a look, please let me know your thoughts.

It makes me cry that the same rig cost me around £675-700 about two months ago :(

How much are you looking to spend? Since i would be inclided to get the Lian-Li Case and a Corsair PSU, not a fan of PSUs that come with cases?

You will be overclocking right?

£700 max.. less is better
no plans for overclocking...
im toying with the idea of getting more memory at the moment also.
i.e. better to get 4gb (6400) or 2gb-8500?

2Gb 8500. 4GB will not be used up.

Also make sure you go for a E6600 or higher if you are not overclocking.

Here you go hows this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail
Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit
EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Lian-Li PC-7 PLUS Aluminium Midi-Tower Case - Black

Total : £696.63

Good quality parts all round. If you want to get 4GB of Memory you will need a 64bit O/S, otherwise you will only get to be able to use 3-3.5GB on a 32bit O/S.

thanks for that,
im quite keen on the sonata III..any reason why no one recommends it?

i should probably add, once ive bought this system, it will probably stay with me for next 3 years approx.
