hi there, im going to upgrade my system sometime soon to a gaming system and im trying to burn all my photos, movies etc off my hard drives , the problem im having is nero is burning things so slow, the dvds im burning on are 16 speed, the burner in my system used to burn them in about 10 mins or so, but for some reason that i cant understand its taking 30-40 mins to burn a single dvd, at this rate ill be dead before i burn all the rubbish in my hard drives

anyone suggest me either quicker software (if you think it is a software issue) or tell me why its being so slow?

Been a long time since troubleshooting a slow CD ROM, but had something to with DMA and stuff. Found this article:

1. Open Device Manager.
2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels.
3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab.
4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if the current setting is "PIO Only."
If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is:
• Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK.
• Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if Available.
