Hi there,i'm after an upgrade of cpu, mobo and memory and almost have it narrowed down to these..

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Asus P5Q-E Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Reaper HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPR800C44GK)

The only thing thats playing on my mind is that the recent saying on here now is the the current q6600 doesn't clock as well, and as OcUk sell the guaranteed 3.0 ghz and 3.6ghz for more money even tho they are all the same chips does that mean the not binned cheap q6600 is a poor clocker???

Is it worth paying a bit more for a E8500 to guarantee 3ghz+

I'm looking at spending around the £300 mark, can anyone better my choice for the money?

Any advice much appreciated.

You could definately get the Q6600 to 3ghz, it's probably capable of a lot more though.

But the e8400/8500/8600 would be better if your pc is just used to gaming.

my pc is mainly for browsing the web and i'm hopefully going to get back into gaming hence the upgrade.

I still haven't played games like crysis and stalker, last good games i played was FEAR and bioshock.
