Help choosing LED strips?

Unfortunately the OcUK LED strips don't fit my requirements as I'm not sure what type of LEDs they use and the remote doesn't have enough keys :p

I'm after some strips to stick under my desk and possibly also under by bed, but, if possible, I'd want them controlled by the same remote.

I'm currently thinking of buying THESE off of eBay (I don't think that's classed as a competitor), but I was wondering, if I cut it in half, bought another mains adapter, what would I have to do in order to get the now 2 strips working off one remote?

Thanks!

I recognise the remote on that eBay listing. I have one that controls an LED strip, and it happens to be on the same IR channel as my RGB LED bulbs and thus control all of it on the same remote.

I've got two sets of similar 5050 strips and I can use either of my 44 key remote controls to change the colour or intensity.

If you are thinking of powering the two halves separately then you would need two PWM control units.

You could have course bridge the two halves together with four bits of insulated wire if that fits in with your plan and have just the one PWM control box control them all.

One of my TV remotes actually switches the LED strip into automatic colour change mode though so I have to tuck the RGB remote out of the way to prevent this.

I was hoping you'd see this Tealc! :D

If I understood you correctly, If I buy two of the same strips, the remote from either of them could control them both?

It's almost like I have the forum let me know when someone asks about LEDs :p

It's likely to be fine, however my experience is by no means evidence that these things are all the same and that it would work. In saying that though neither PWM control box or IR remotes have any marking on them to suggest they are running at a particular frequency like you see on some devices so my guess is they are universally set in the factory to work on the same frequency to make things easier, and cheaper for them in China.

Tell them about your LED strips. No woman can resist such a thing. :)

I'll just chance it and see :D

If it doesn't work it isn't the end of the world :p
