I moved into a new flat beginning of the year and have finally got around to getting a new TV.

Budget £700 but would stretch to £1k
Living room size is 15ft x 23ft (~15ft distance between tv and sofa)

Firstly would be size. I have no preference but would be looking at least ~46inch.
The TV will be used for Blu-rays, SD sky and probably a new gen console when they're released.

Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Try to avoid choosing a tv which looks great eg. the frame and concentrate on the picture quality. Also 'LED' in shops always look better than plamas as they have all the settings really high to try and stand out. I believe that Plasmas last time I looked still have a good edge over LCD tv in terms of natural colours etc.

In terms of distance I would suggest a 46" as you may find 50" or above might dominate the room to much.

When your down mine next we can go check some tvs out at Bluewater before we shoot.

Edit: Not sure if this is correct but the larger you go with tv the worse SD looks. So it might be worth getting Sky Hd to do justic to any new tv.

agree with this Plasma T.V,s are more natural picture quality than LED and are better for watching Blu Ray Films , in my view :)

Problem is people go into a shop see the over blown LED tvs and think wow best picture. Get it setup at home and ain't so happy!

yeah a clever ploy of shops :) but from what i,ve seen from friends who have Panasonic Plasma T.V,s in there home i don,t think i,ve seen a better picture that can beat them :)

I would agree, go for a Panasonic plasma.

only major downfall with a plasma is the screen reflection. So make sure there is no way any light will shine on the TV

and if you hang on the OLED tv's will be in stock on most major retailers around Christmas time (so I've heard)

yes this is true ,but LED T.V are reflective too , if its a backlight LED :) also if you have a good blind you can always shut out the sunlight :)

There should be no problem with reflection as there is only one window which has wooden blinds

yeah thats like my room i have 2 windows , but one is the other end of the room and the tv is in a elcove so i only have one window to worry about ,and i have vertical blinds which are top job ! you can control the amount of light you let into the room so your not totally shut in :) Besides the new Plasma screen with the special coating is not as reflective as old Plasma screens , my friend has one of the ST50 models in his room and he has a small room with a massive window , and i never noticed any reflection while i watched it this was 2pm afternoon :) and it was a sunny day too :)
