Help choosing which 780 please?

I've just been with AMD for a long, long time and fancied a change. Plus I've always had the impression that nVidia are sort of the premium option, more well built and more of the all round package, which is probably rubbish but it's something I'd like to explore for a generation. Just a change of pace mostly really.

I ended up going with the Gigabyte Ghz edition - that £50 price difference on the Classified made the difference in the end, and while I prefer the Classified's aesthetics I ended up deciding that any performance difference I might've got would probably be negligible really, especially at the moment with current gen. Couldn't wait to order it was I wanted it asap so hopefully it'll come tomorrow and I'll have an early christmas present :D

Thank you all for your help, feel free to carry on the recommendations for anyone who might find this thread useful in the future though, and it's always interesting to read what people think of different cards.

Can i just ask why you are not entertaining a 290 btw? just out of curiosity

A) Nvidia fanboy?
B) read all the rubbish about the "it's too loud", "it gets too hot". All of which is now untrue with the custom cooler models.
C) friend/college told them about the driver issue they had with ati card last century(ok exaggeration there but you get the idea)?
D)?

Edit: op replied while I was typing, yes the Nvidia is premium product impression is rubbish :p

D) Moderate chance the card has the blackscreen issue and has to be RMA'd :S

Aha, I knew it was when I typed it, but it's something I'd like to entertain anyway.

Definitely not a Nvidia fanboy since I've been with AMD for like 5 generations :P

Plus the 290 custom coolers are out of stock at the moment, and although the Sapphire was due in on 27/12/2013 the Gigabyte which would have been my preference is out until Jan, so that swayed my decision slightly.

D) he likes his cards to just work?

Op, i spent a long time amd side, and last year jumped over to nvidia with 670's. Overall, it's been a more pleasant experience. Just haven't had issues with nvidia stuff where often had issues with amd

I've had nvidia and ati/amd cards since I started building my own pcs since 2006, not had any driver issues etc with the ati/amd cards and they've just worked as you put it :p

Can't go wrong with either. Haven't received the classi yet but theoretically the classified should be binned for higher clocks (if I understood pgi correctly in another thread) so could clock higher than the GHz edition. I suspect it is mostly down to silicone lottery. EVGA have superb support too.

Have to say I was hugely impressed with the MSI gaming 780. Mine gets to around 1300MHz core at no more than max stock volts (just over 1.2v).

Is that the OC version?

I'm really disappointed this thread is turning into what seems like the inevitable AMD vs Nvidia flamewar. I was kinda hoping it would be more of a reference in future for people who had the same question as I had.

Unfortunately inevitable these days.:(

Yeah, sorry, I guess I contributed, but I just don't get why the guy is contributing here,as he's not offering you useful information of any sort, and just trying to push the...

I've got the EVGA SC ACX which I'm really pleased with. Runs very cool and comparatively quiet.

I know it's not clocked as high as the Classified, but the Classified has an even larger version of the cooler that the SC has.
