Ok im probably missing somthing simple but ive just finished putting together my new core 2 duo e6600, aw9d-max, 2x1 gig ddr2, ati x1900xtx and a thermaltake purepower 500w with the remnants of my out of the box adven which is the dvd drive, floppy drive and the hard drive into a new antec 900. now when i hit the power everything comes to life fans spin lights light up moniter goes through normal normal things then just as windows starts to load the system powres off. any help would be welcomed greatly.

I would always do a nice clean install when installing new mobo, cpu etc.

You did back-up didn't you..?

:)

If it is an old install it will be trying to work with your old hardware if it is XP, all the old drivers.

Windows is confused, as its talking in English but the hardware is answering in German.

I did the same on my first build but Windows 9x is much more forgiving regarding this.

A re-install should sort it.

as posted above, reinstalling xp should do it.

PS: backup ya stuff!!, iv made many of mistakes and lost lots of files in the past, and now i have a external HDD and its most usefull thing ever ;)

My brother did it and seems to have got away with it... but even if you can get it to work there is bound to be some slight incompatibility somewhere from the changeover that will come back to bite you in the ass at a later date...

if possible do a second install i.e. on a different partition first to make sure its not just an OS issue... but even so I'd advise a clean install.

thanx guys re-install worked knew it would be somthing stupid and simple
well after the first time i turned it on after the build and the first thing i saw was cpu unworkable almost had a fit right there then read the rest where it said or changed.
