i recently upgraded my RAM to:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS

the RAM clearly states pc8500, however on my motherboard BIOS it says pc6400.

i have taken screenshots to illustrate what i mean.

my motherboard = Gigabyte
Model = EP35C-DS3R

am i doing something wrong?

can somone please advise me what i need to change to see PC8500 instead of PC6400.

Thank you.

You need to manually set the timings, voltage and frequency in the BIOS for 8500 memory as the MB will set the memory to 6400 settings by default.

What speed is it showing in the Memory tab?

If I recall correctly pc8500 wasn't an offical JEDEC timing so not all ram will contain those timings table, even if it can run at those speeds.

Here's my G-Skill PC8500 running on a Gigabyte EP35-DS3R

BTW if you press Alt + Print Screen while on the app you want to copy the screen grab will only grab that app. :D

i am willing to try manually setting the timings, voltage & frequency.

if that what will fix it.

thanks.

but i dont know what i am doing.

any advice on which i do first? i was messing around with it before and the pc failed to boot up.

i am a novice with BIOS settings.

Hey N$X,

If you read (or download) the motherboard manual and flick to the back where the BIOS settings are you will see this:

It's the System Memory Multiplier that you wanna play with, you just need to take it from [Auto] and change it to show 533 like it is in the screenshot.

The timings for DDR2-1066 and DDR2-800 are the same on your memory so you shouldn't need to change those, the voltage shouldn't need changing either.

You haven't told us which CPU you have, not all of them can support DDR2-1066 so let us know . . .

The information you are seeing in the CPU-z [SPD] tab will never change but you should see the Memory MHz change in the [Mem] tab from 400MHz to 533MHz

i have changed the memory frequency so that 533 appears as highlighted in post 8.

my cpu = q6600 - 2.4ghz.

the SPD screen on JEDEC #3 is stil showing 400mhz.

am i doing something wrong?

thanks.

the SPD screen on JEDEC #3 is stil showing 400mhz

It will always show that. It is a default figure programmed into the memory to allow motherboards to 'try' and auto configure the memory. Hence the advice to switch from auto to 533 in a previous post.

Assuming your Bus Speed is 266Mhz just check that
FSB DRAM = 1:2
in the memory tab in CPU-Z

If not, make sure it is not set to auto in Bios.
While in Bios, you will find a setting to change your RAM to either 1:2 or 1066 or 533

in BIOS i am seeing the system memory multiplier (SPD) at 2. and below that it says memory frequency 800 - 533.

if i change the 2, the next option is 2.4 then 3.2. i dont have the option to manually change it to 266.

my FSB = 1.1

latest screen shots.

your advice would be appreciated.

Your screenies are not showing 1:2 (FSB : DRAM), go back and check multiplier in BIOS.

As already stated, you will probably need to increase DRAM voltage to 2.1 or 2.2 volts.

I also have this memory, and I run it at 2.2 volts
