Help convincing my old man to get a build from here instead of all-in-one

My old man is after a new desktop, he states he wants an all-in-one but I think you pay a premium for a little space saving.

Ideally the budget is £600 for everything but I would be willing to buy him a monitor if needed.

I have been looking at the below as I have never built a PC, apart from changing hard drives and RAM in laptops I am new to it all.

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/prim...eration-intel-pentium-fs-1at-og.html#t=a1b0c0

He uses it for mainly web browsing, word processing, so general stuff really but it would be good to get a decent PC that will be good for as long as possible.

Sorry if I have missed anything or not added enough detail but would love some advice.

Cheers

Personally since it's for someone else, and not yourself I wouldn't "learn" on another persons build. If you want to learn get your own PC and build up, and once you know what you're doing then offer your service. But not until then.

I possibly wasn't clear, the link I provided was for a built PC from this website. I will eventually build my own PC but like you said I won't learn on someone elses money.

I would have thought a Intel nuc nuc7o3bnh would be better? It only has a I3 But for normal home tasks you wont be needing anything more powerful and that will make light work of anything above and for years to come. I don't seem to understand why you think he needs 16GB of ram? For what you listed 8gb would be more than enough for what he is using it for. And with a SSD he should enjoy the lode times :)

He won't need 16GB of RAM. My dad uses his laptop for the same - emails, word processing, and doesn't need more than the 6GB it has. Get your dad a bigger SSD instead.

Also, look at the new Ryzen quad-core APUs with integrated graphics. Ryzen 3 2200G for example (with a B350 board).

I have looked at a deal with the below;

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G
ASUS PRIME B350M-A
8GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR4 2133MHZ
500GB SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD
GENERIC DVD DRIVE
STANDARD POWER SUPPLY/COOLER ETC.

£637 INCLUDING VAT

I won't be building it myself so was going to configure one from this site. I can't see where to build something like the one above but I am guessing this would be sufficient?

Not sure if that link will work.

my basket at overclockers uk:
Total: £589.59 (includes shipping: £11.70)

Faster RAM (will help any graphics load faster, even if he doesn't play games). And a better than standard PSU for reliability.

If you go the custom spec route, add the parts to your basket, view basket and click on BBcode, copy the code, then paste here (and in the Customer Service forum when you're decided, and ask them for a quote). It shouldn't be over £650 for the above one I imagine.

If he needs a DVD drive, add.

I would checkout the Dell Outlet, they have all in one machines on there that offer the same performance for the same money. Whilst being backed by a warranty and having the monitor included.

When OcUK builds a system it includes the three year warranty. Having said that I would also check others to compare, especially if monitor is included.

500GB SAMSUNG 850 EVO SSD
If use doesn't include digital images then SSD half the size would be enough.

(anyway important images should be back upped instead of trusting one SSD alone)

Problem of that motherboard is lack of display connectors.
Asus Prime B350M-A has those.

80+ Gold and DC-DC design is better than standard, but capacitors of Golden Green HX are exactly standard cheap capacitors.
There would be cheaper Bitfenix Formula which actually has quality capacitors

Anyway 350W would be well enough for little over 100W absolute max consumption PC.

Also with all cores in single CCX in Ryzen APU there's likely very little need for more than basic speed memory.
Especially when use is that general light stuff.

So it is MATX he's after  just be sure you checked he's happy to have 2x the desk space taken before you buy any parts. Remember what you like might not be the same as what he wants.

Thanks for all the help, sorry I haven't been on but was busy with work.

I'm going to build a cheap media pc I can stick under the TV to use for streaming etc. So once I've done that I'm going to build him a PC...or buy him an all in one if he definitely wants one because of the space issues.

you can get some pretty good AIO computers that will do all thats required just fine, it sounds like you want him to have a custom build because you like tinkering, if he wants an AIO type then get him one, after all its not for you and it sounds like its what he want.

but if you must build then something like this..

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £612.23 (includes shipping: £12.30)

get windows cheap elsewhere and if you dont want the shipping to tally over the £600 mark then drop the ssd to a 240gb.

this is what it would look like if you get the smaller ssd, include windows and drop the monitor

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £570.03 (includes shipping: £11.10)

£30 can get you a nice used 22" onwards lcd or led monitor and i know this from my own experience.
