hey.
ive got a 4850 which when i get the PC going works fine,
but the problem is, when i turn the PC on, the light on my monitor instead of going green, to show it's recieving a signal.

it flashes Green, and the screen stays black, and if i pull the connector out of the monitor and put it back in, it acts as though i have 2 screens and shows me the second (if that makes sense)

i generally have to power it off once or twice till i see the post on the screen, then i have no other probems at all.

ive tried reinstalling the drivers etc, and that's not helped.
could it be something to do with catalyst and its "force detect" settings?

anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Does sound a bit odd as they normally show the POST screen to all outputs.

How many/what type of outputs are on the card? And have you tried connecting the monitor up using different connections and leads? Also, does the monitor have a manual/auto setting for detecting inputs?

its odd as if there's no input, the monitor light goes amber.
its 2 Dvi ports.
when i get it working and it shows 2 screens, catalyst is convinced it's detected another monitor

Check cable, change monitor input, try a different monitor. Try different gpu socket output.
Sounds like a monitor/cable issue rather then a graphics card one.

nope none.

looks like im gonan have to buy a new cable to try out

i have this issue with my 5970 in one of the pci-e lanes. If i put it in the top one my system boots occasionally, most of time problems you've mentioned.

I moved it from the top lane to bottom lane and use my 5870 as my primary card, fixed everything.
