Help..do I have a knackered HD?

Well I hope not, as im curretnly reinstalling windows..heres whats happining.

Dont know what it will be like after the instalation but before it, it sounded like it was just cutting out...like you could hear it switich off as when you turn the PC off...then about 1/2 second later it sound like it switched on again.....

.......so I decided to reinstall Xp (was due anyways)....now its done it about 3 times.....its still installing so it must not cause any ill effect...but its a new one for me....

Any ideas?

Try the manufacturers testing tools. Ask the S.M.A.R.T. too . . .

weel its loaded Xp in again but its DAMN slow

Its the Western Digital Barrcuda......think they have a Diagnosis tool dont they?

whats SMART?..possibly a dumb question lol.

Go to www.seagate.com as their drive tools: seatools work for both WD and Seagate drives

Installed SMART, says everything is dandy :rolleyes:

Gonna install some stuf and see how it goes?.....is it possible for it to sort itself after a fresh installation?

Its hasnt done the power down/ up since I started work on it this morning.

Haven't tried it yet but its on my PCPLUS software disc. Im sure there is another one that i used ages ago but i can't remember the name of it!
