This is what I see in disk management:

It tells me that all data will be lost if I convert the offline dynamic volume to basic. Ive also googled it and it was suggested that u need to convert the OS disk to dynamic to be able to read the dynamic disk.
It also says when u go convert the OS disk to dynamic that no other OS can read from it (and I like to dual boot sometimes).
I just upgraded to a new motherboard and I installed windows xp pro 64-bit freshly and disk 2 was recognised 100%. I have changed the CPU cooler and then am greeted with this offline malarky when I get the PC back together (its possible I didnt put the SATA cables back exactly in the same order).
I could reinstall the operating system (since windows xp pro 64-bit recognised this disk from a fresh install). Surely this is not necessary though?
I had trouble getting this drive recognised when I purchased it. I added it to an existing operating system via some little wizzard which popped up when I accessed the disk manager.
Nb. The first 2 disks are "basic" and disk 2 is "dynamic". This is where the problem lies.
The other option is to convert the operating system disk to "dynamic" (which apparently stops other operating systems accessing it). I could copy over the data onto disk 2 (will probably fit; hence could format it back to basic).
Looks to me the simplest thing to do is a reinstall without changing the status of my disks. Im assuming it will work cause I only reinstalled the OS last week, and it could access disk 2 no problem.
Just makes me think that if u can solve this with an OS reinstall, then there must be a way to get this disk recognised again without the reinstall.
