Good evening,

It's been a while since I've built a PC and how things have progressed since my last one

My budget for the system alone is £1500(ish:rolleyes:) and from what I've researched so far I've come up with the following.

Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £249.95

Asus Z87 SABERTOOTH Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £188.99

Samsung 128GB SSD 840 PRO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7PD128BW) £107.99

Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black/White (CC-9011013-WW) £99.95

Western Digital Caviar Green 3TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (WD30EZRX) HDD
£95.99

Corsair Hydro H110 280mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060014-WW)
£94.99

Pioneer BDC-207DBK 8x BluRay ROM / DVDRW SATA-II Optical Drive - Black (OEM)
£49.99

Total : £901.94

Now here is where I'm struggling a bit and was hoping some of the more experienced could advise me.

1) Graphics card wise I am unsure what to go for but I'd like a bit of future proofing. This one did catch my eye and seems to get good reviews but again I'm out of my depth here. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-209-MS

2) I would like 16GB of RAM for the system but again it seems there are quite a few options. I read the memory section of the Mobo manual and it seems there are specific RAM sets that are recommended.

I've also heard people say that the Haswell chips like high frequency RAM but also to be careful with voltages above 1.65v.

3) Finally I'll need some sort of PSU which I'd like to be fully modular. I also plan on overclocking the CPU.

Thanks in advance for reading and I look forward to your advice.

Hi stulid,

Many thanks for the welcome and the quick reply, the green/black theme does look smart :)

Few more questions if you don't mind.

Any reason for going AMD over nVidia?

Is the 1000W PSU a necessity or could I get away with a lower wattage?

Is 2133Mhz the optimal frequency for the combination I'm looking at?

Any reason for using the Hydro 100 over the 110?

Thanks again.

Lety me answer some of those Q's

• You get more performance for your money with AMD, the R9 290 is faster than a GTX780 for example.

• It's a quality PSU, with room to spare should you decide to add a second GFX card later on. You could get away with a 850W PSU but I thought the extra power, build quality and the silent fan operation are worth having,

• That RAM is there because it glows green too and is the fastest green illuminated RAM in stock, the speed and timings are about par compared to others.

• The H100i can be controlled via software and has a RGB logo which you can turn green to match.
