A) What PSU is it? (Brand)

B) Why a laptop HDD?

C) Why low end crossfire cards?

The RAM is triple channel and you will need dual channel unless you go X58 (Which you wont)

Good PSU :)

Link below shows the comparison between the 2 sets of gpu's:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/302?vs=309

I used the 480 GTX in the past and had crossfire 5850 gpus, I was lucky and did not have issues with crossfire giving me grief.

The 480 is a fairly power hungry GPU, In my old system I pulled 430w with the crossfire 5850 and upto 615w with the 480 in the same system (worse case)

So basically you are needing something like this,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £175.99
1 x Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £99.98

Total : £577.14 (includes shipping : £10.00).

• Cheapest Z68 board that does Crossfire/SLI and has Lucid Virtu+Quicksync.
• 2X4GB RAM as the CPU's use a dual channel RAM controller.

going with Intel Core i3-2120 3.30GHz £94

thanks for the help

Hi, i've done two Intel specs for you, a higher priced and a lower priced one I've also added you a AMD spec if you really wanted to go AMD.

At the moment I would strongly recommend you stay away from AMD in terms of processors as the performance they are getting is around two generation's behind Intel and the priced difference is negligible.

None of the intel boards you have suggested do symmetrical Crossfire.

I've already pointed out one of the two cheapest boards that do.

P.S, even your AMD board selection is wrong.

Ok, cool, remember you cant overclock the CPU, but the board is ready for Ivybridge and future "K" CPU's that can be easily overclocked via the multiplier.

The only other £100 Z68 board that does 8X/8X Crossfire/SLI is this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-342-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1990

But it doesn't have any onboard display connectors and so it doesnt have Lucid Virtu+Quicksync.

Ah yes you are right, I forgot that he was going to be using two x 6850. So instead i'll change the GPU to the 560ti 2gb
