hi all....

finally got my new rig up and running....

AMD64 3700+SD (stock heatsink and fan)
ATI X1800XT 256MB (stock heatsink and fan)
MSI RD480 Neo2

and was wanting to know which component to overclock first (prefebably the easiest) to get a bit of a boost....not to push the components to the limit but an increase on stock.... :)

could you also point me in the right direction aswell as programs to get....????

cheers :D

Well the easiest would most definatly be the x1800.

To overclock it, try a program called ATi Tool. It overclocks the card for you, and checks for any errors :)

thanks....

could you tell me what benchmarks to look out for etc....

and any stability checks i can do....

cheers :D

Well as for benchmarking, try the 3dmark range.

3dmark 05 is mainly graphics orientated, so use that once you've overclocked your card.

As for stability tests, ATi Tool will check for artifacts whilst its overclocking. Once you've found the max speeds, try running 3dmark in a loop, or play a demanding game etc :)

thank you....

ive heard that ati tool is not very good with the X1800 series....and to use another program (forget the name)....

so is the graphics card overclock just a case of increasing the speed....

what about volts....

anychance of frying it....

and will the warranty be void....

cheers :D

if u increase the volts or oc it does void warranty, but increasing clock will be fine only danger in frying when playing with the volts really.

you could always then move onto the cpu and ram.
use prime, S&M and occt to test the cpu stability.
mem test to check ram is stable (ususally make bootable disk, leave it running for couple hours then u are sorted).

i would always adivce to do the cpu and ram through bios nad not use any 3rd party software as they always produce more problems than they are worth.

The only other decent program would be ati tray tools :)

If its your first time overclocking.. dont mess with the volts
