I'm new to this , so please forgive my ignorance. I have just built up the following;
Asus P5Q-E
Q6600 G0 stepping
4gb patriot viper extreme 800/6400 4-4-4-12

When I go into the bios and adjust the RAM timings to "manual", and input 4-4-4-12 it won't boot? It sets it to 5-5-5-12 in auto and works?
When I look and the fsb in cpu-z, it says it's at 266x7, do I need to set this to 333x7 or 333x9 to achieve a 3.0 overclock?
What do I need to change to "manual" in the bios?
Do I need to input any voltage changes, eg. change cpu from auto to 1.12v?

Any help and advice, in a form an idiot like me would understand, will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt.

Youll have to set the ram voltage manually in bios for 4-4-4-12, reccomended voltage will be on the sticks or product description. To achieve 3.0ghz, find the vid (stock voltage) of your cpu using coretemp, disable speedstep/c1e in bios. set cpu voltage to whatever your vid is, fsb 333, multi x9 save and exit, test for stability with prime95 small fft and keep an eye on temps with coretemp.

Memory done, cheers. Set cas to 4-4-4-12 and ram votage to 2.1 :)

When I set fsb to 333 and multipier to 9 it wont run vista, even when I set the cpu voltage to 1.125?
What am I missing?
Thanks,
Matt.

Setting your voltage to 1.125? I'm not surprised it won't boot.

Set the CPU Vcore to 1.4v (this is safe)
Set the FSB to 333
Set the CPU multi to 9

This will give you 3ghz (well 2997mhz).

Still no joy, I've tried upping the voltage on the cpu untill I hit 1.35v, and still won't boot.
Tried setting multiplier to auto - no good.
Speedstep was already showing disabled, not sure what c1e is?
I even left everything standard, and just set fsb to 300, won't boot!
I have the memory set at 2.02v 4-4-4-12 auto frequency.
A DOS page flashes up before it boots into windows now!?
Help!

Will increasing the voltage on the RAM help?
Will RAM timing affect it - It sets itself to 5-5-5-12, but the spec states 4-4-4-12 ?
I've been told to leave the multipier on auto?
I've also been told to set the CPU PLL Voltage: 1.54 and FSB Termination Voltage: 1.24 as it overvolts when left on auto?
OMG! IT'S TOO COMPLICATED
