help formatting a drive

Run a stress test and a few benchmarks. If the system doesn't crash and the results look fine then everything should be good

I would go on the manufactor sites for the latest drivers, you might see some performance gains/better stability.

all sorted now. thanks for all the help guys. but one final thing, i have installed all the drivers which were on my mobo disk and my graphics card disk. are these all the 'essential' drivers that i need? and where can i check that they are all installed and working properly?

You probably didn't need to do that. Most, if not all drivers would have been installed with Win7. Just check Device Manager after install to see if any drivers are still needed. Windows update might find you any that are still missing and failing that go to the manufacturers site.
