Hello,

Wondering if i could ask for some help. I a bit out in the sticks and my broadband seems to sync anywhere between 1728 and 4544kbps.

My question is two fold. First of all, could someone advise how i would get the best out of this line? My line stats are shown below (currently using the Official Netgear 1.02.15 firmware - i assume i should get the latest DGTeam?):

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4480 kbps 832 kbps
Line Attenuation 32.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 8.9 db 9.0 db

Secondly, is there anyway to increase the reliability of the connection. We seem to get very regular drop outs. Below is our connection log:

Cheers for any help. Sorry if i havent posted the correct / necessary information... ill happily add more.

Thanks

There is something wrong with the wiring of the phone line that speed is shocking for 32db attenuation.

Thanks for the reply Locky.

So are you saying there is something physically wrong with our phone line holding back our broadband speeds becuase a 32db attenuation is actually ok?

(Sorry, i dont have a clue in this area)

With 32db attenuation you should have a sync speed around 15meg, my friend has 17meg from a 29db line. Tried in the test socket?

Most of the wiring should go back to some central point where the BT line comes in. The socket there is probably your master socket, though it probably won't be the two part NTE5 that's installed now.
If the wiring is a mess, it's probably that which is holding back the speed you get. 32dB is fairly short (~3km of copper).

I'm guessing thats an ADSL2+ line. The OPs line looks like a normal ADSL Max line.

I get 5.5Mbps with 29Db attenuation.

I had a similar issue with line drop-outs, i swore down it was the line/provider, but it turned out it was the router. Try replacing your router/filter/cables, chances are that'll sort it all out.

Thanks for the replies.

I had a look around at a few potential sockets, none are NTE5 looking. Ive opened a few up and checked the serial numbers inside. So far ive found 2 "LJ3/1A", which according to here are PSTN Master IDC Terminals (and two LJ3/3A). I have two master sockets?!

@tolien - According to samknows im 522m from the exchange.

@Liquidfox - I dont think its the router since we've been through a few Netgear DG834*'s. Ill try the filters/cables.

@Ryan111 - Im on ADSL24 Office 15 (21CN ADSL2+)

The main problem is the wiring in this house is ridiculous as there have been many additions over the years. Basically we have two telephone lines, one broadband enabled and another just for telephone and other services. A while ago our neighbour dug a hole and managed to sever both lines, but there also seems to be a telephone pole with wires coming in to the second floor - would the master socket be there / in the loft? Basically, which floor should be i looking in?

Cheers for any help
