There's a high pitched noise, seems to be coming from my CPU or near it - it's certainly not fans anywhere and it's not hard drive or cd spin noise either.

I don't think it's the PSU as it really does seem to be coming from the CPU - is this likely?

Not noticing any other related problems, although I've started getting disk errors when transferring large files too - do we think the motherboard (Asus K8V Deluxe) or the CPU (Sempron 3100) is on the way out?

Finally, does anyone know what i should set 'Hypertransport frequency' too in the BIOS? I have it set at 800mhz at the mo.

Cheers,
James

if you are getting disk errors, possibly its the hard drives ? or it might be the fan on the heatsink of the cpu - might be worth checking all the fans, as the bearings might have worn out....

i dont think its a sound from something moving if its high pitched...

is the sound constant? or does it only come on when the CPU load is around 100%

It seems to be at its worst when the CPU is moderatly active.

It's certainly not a fan, I've stopped them all (very briefly) to check.

Cheers,
James
