Hi all, I have a laptop that I have reinstalled a fresh copy of windows XP onto and when I connect my Cable modem to it vis Ethernet cable I get a warning come up to say that the connection is limited and I cant get on the net can anyone give me a hand with this ?

Well at the moment it is just the modem connected to the laptop via a ethernet cable but I have a wireless router that I need to try and connect once I get this sorted I need to try and get the router working ?
I meant was it plugged into the laptop before then - its MAC address shouldn't have changed with a Windows install, so if it worked before it should work now.
Either way, try disconnecting the modem, switching it off and back on, waiting for the lights to settle down then connecting it to the laptop. You'll need to do the same when you use the router.
