Hi,

My friend has just bought an old iBook with 10.1.5 on it. It currently has IE as it's default browser with no evidence of Safari being present. Maybe Safari didn't exist at this point? I'm not sure.

Anyway - could you lot suggest the best browser available to me to use on this machine?

Many thanks.

10.1 - safari didn't appear until much later. I think you'll need to install 10.4 or 10.5 (if that works on PowerPC macs).

10.1 is obscenely old. When I was working for a paper locally, I was 19 and we were on 10.2.8 and it was getting on a bit. I'm 26 this year!

Just checked - the OS was superceded in August 2002. It's ancient.

10.5 will work on the mac if it meets the specs, but at the age it is I'm not sure it would. In fact I'm pretty certain it wouldn't.

You got the specs? (quickest way, I believe this is true of 10.1 as well but I haven't seen 10.1 since I was at college, and I've seen a LOT of macs through work!, is apple in top left, about this mac)

In that kind of timeline your looking at one of the very earliest iBooks, with G3 processors.

10.4 is the latest you can install.

Honestly it's going to be slow and useless.
