SOLVED: Help ID this kitchen gadget

Found this device laying 'round and have no idea what it is. Diameter of the tube is about 1.75cm, so kind of small for anything. The tube contains a screw device so it's made for serious pressure. My best guess is a garlic press. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I ruled out pepper mill because it's made to squeeze the item, not grind it as far as I can tell. The inside guts push down as the screw is turned, not spin.

If it is for garlic, it would hold a lot of cloves! Giddy-up! :)

Must be a garlic press then, can't see any other use for it if it just pushes down. Seems like a lot of cleaning and engineering for such a simple task though.

I thought it would be a pepper mill, you would hold the top and spin the bottom, rather then the other way round, that not work?

You bought it and you don't know what it is?
No, didn't buy it. My mother-in-law, who just passed, had it in her collection of strange things she's bought from infomercials. Gotta love her. :)

The bottom is stationary. By spinning the top it turns a screw that slowly pushes down on the interior.

edit: I stand corrected. The interior plate rotates with the screw, so it would turn/grind the food item. I suppose by flipping the blade over it could work as a mill. Possibly a hard cheese grater as well. I guess I'll just have to sample a few different items. Maybe its an all-in-one thingy! :)

Fresh spaghetti maker :D
I considered that, also. But the screw moves so slowly it didn't seem like it would work efficiently for that purpose.

Looks like it could also be a fresh Parmesan cheese grater.

But saying that, most of the pepper mills I've seen look like that.

Never really had a use for a garlic press, so no idea on that one.

Unlikely to be a garlic press IMO. If you put fresh garlic in that you'd never use it before it went bad. A garlic press is much smaller.

OK that's wierd if it's not a mill. I thought it might be a pasta maker too, but it's smaller than any I've seen.

Have you tried putting some stuff in it to see what happens?
