Ive got a mates laptop but cant seem to find out what the processor is.
All i can find is
GenuineIntel x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4.

Ive got no way of putting any software onto the laptrop to identify it. Its got Windows 98 on it and i cant even get into bios for some reason. Oh and its a Toshiba.

Cheers

He cant put any software on so how does he put linux on?

it could quite possibly be a
GenuineIntel. Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4], Microsoft Windows 2000 ...

but thats me assuming the stepping, model and family are relivant to a certain chip.

hope it helps though. if not give me the laptops model number and ill google the laptop specs

Google for a program called 'CPUZ' this will supply you with all the information you require :), or checking bois on boot

Naw, it was a 1.6 P4. It had a totally corrupt version of Windows 98 which thought it was a P3.

After buggering around with it i got it to read correct (all be it in German:rolleyes:)

There is something weird about this type of Toshiba laptop, underneth there is an unlabeled trap door which is secured by a security screw. The weird thing is that all the other trap doors (which house the RAM etc...) have normal screws. When i took the screw out there was some kind of weird sensor. The sensor seems to be right ontop of the harddrive but there is a peice of plastic seperating the two. Anyone know what it is? There is no mention in the manual of what it could be.
