For the past couple of days I've been using hibernate instead of shutdown. The system stays in hibernate mode all night. When I came home from work at midday for lunch it is still powered down. Yet every day when I come home in the evening to find the system running. A friend suggested trying the command "powercfg -LASTWAKE" which resulted in

Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0

System is:

Q6600 at stock speed
Gigabyte EP45 DS3
Corsair 2x1Gig ddr2
2x WD 320 SATA HDDs
BFG Geforce 8800GTS 512meg
Edimax 80211.n PCI wifi card
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Obviously Wake-on-lan is disabled for the 2 on board RJ45 connectors (which don't even have anything plugged into them)

Can anyone suggest anything else other than an exorcist?

I had a similar problem, for me it was the mcupdate scheduled task.

Task Scheduler -> Library -> Microsoft -> Media Center -> mcupdate -> properties -> conditions -> untick "wake the computer to run this task"

Not sure if it'll be the same for you, but worth a look.

That could be it. It's set to run at 4:07pm and to wake computer to run. I'll change that and report back
