It's worth mentioning, the majority* of USB enclosures don't offer TRIM support which could impact performance hence a Thunderbolt enclosure is the better solution albeit more costly.

* Supposedly a few USB bridges do offer TRIM support but i've yet to read of a USB enclosure where TRIM is fully supported under MacOS - typically it's confirmed under Windows/Linux.
