Hi guys,

I was just upgrading my pc to quad core from an E6300.

I installed it all, put everything back together, loaded the bios and it had set itself at what I think, is stock 7x multi, whats the stock voltage?

My motherboard is a Gigabyte P965 DS3 rev 2 with latest bios.

Is there anything else I need to change in the bios for the quad?

I get the bsod just before it boots into windows (vista)

Any help please people

Thanks

Nick

You are underclocking the Q6600?:D

Stock multiplier is "9"
Stock Vcore is 1.3v

Did you reinstall windows?

Oh no, thought that was only with mobo change?

Just did a cmos reset.

If I put the E6300 back in will it work as before?

Clear the CMOS and start from the beginning:

The GA-965P-DS3 ships with 1 PCI Express x16 slot, 3 PCI-Express x1 slots, and 3 PCI slots. Notice that GIGABYTE chose to place one of the PCI Express x1 slots to the right of the PCI Express x16 slot, in order to allow room for video cards with large heat sinks. The CMOS battery and reset jumper are located between the lower portion of the PCI Express x16 slot and PCI slot 1. Note that in order to clear the CMOS, a jumper must be placed on the CMOS reset jumper pins. The S/PDIF input and CD_IN ports are located in the upper right corner of the board.

Check the manual. Do as it says.
Then reinstall windows.

I moved from an E6600 on a Gigabyte P965 DS4 to a Q6600 under Vista a couple of days ago.

I also got the blue screen just prior to booting into Vista.

So I booted into safe mode, removed the processor info in device manager and rescanned (I also uninstalled SpeedFan not sure if relevant). It then booted into Vista normally.

As they say ymmv

Hi, I tried the above, boots into safe mode fine, removed everything under CPU, rescanned and I get 4 saying Q6600, don't have speedfan, only everest.

Hit restart and same bsod, says Royal.sys at the top

Am i looking at a re-install then? :(

Thanks

I have never had to re-install Windows after a cpu change. That also includes going from a E4300 to a Q6600 on a Gigabyte 965P DS3P. I just reset the CMOS and it has always detected the change correctly. Take the battery out and leave it out for around 30 mins or so.

So, if I re-install my E6300 should it work ok again?

I have a P35 mobo coming within the next few so dont really want to re-install until I have new mobo.

It should do, but then again, there's no reason why it should'nt have worked with the quad either. You have nothing to lose in trying.

I've never had to reinstall windows just for a cpu change either.

You should always clear the CMOS between CPU changes, and then set up the bios again. Leave the voltages etc to auto just to check it works fine at stock.

Ok im back on mt E6300, reset the cmos and it fired right up.

So is my quad faulty?

I will try again when new mobo arrives with a fresh install on a spare drive.

I did to start with lol, wasnt thinking right.

At 3.15 Ghz now, only volts I have increased is vcore to 1.35, looking good so far.
