My mobo is an Asus k8vse deluve and has had an 80gb sata hd preinstalled since I bought it. Manual down this page: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
The original hd is connected in the sata1 port in the mobo.
So far, I have tried the following without any luck. I am only trying to get it working for now and don't need any RAID set up. THe motherboard does have the latest bios update. I am not sure what to do. And I can't get a straight answer on websites.
WHen I connect the new hd to the sata2 port, none of the 2 hds get detected. POST says "Hardware initiate failed. Please check device! The Bios does not be installed [sic]. Press g to continue" Upon doing so, "No hd detected." And that's it.
When I plug the hd into either of the priSata/secSata (which I think has to do with RAID), XP does load up as normal. However, when I go into Disk Management expecting to find unallocated space for the new hd and hoping for an installation wizard to pop up, nothing happens.
Any help welcome.
/edit - actually, would you recommend setting the 2nd hd as raid 1? My mobo manual has some info, but not sure where it would need plugging, if everything is done via bios and whether it will affect (delete) my 1st hd at all.
