Help Installing FarCry

I'm trying to install FarCry and it just isn't happening.

I bought the game a few years ago and installed it with no problems but never really got round to playing it so I uninstalled it. Now, after getting my X1950Pro I thought I'd give it the game a proper go.

When I put the DVD in the drive it sort of reads a little and then nothing happens. If I try to access the disk via ‘My Computer’ it just says there is no disk in the drive.

I've had a look at some of the FarCry forums and found incompatibility issues with certain DVD drives. My drive is a NEC DVD_RW ND-4551A which isn’t mentioned as being incompatible. Following suggestions, I removed all CD/DVD copying software (including Nero) and have upgraded the drive's firmware but I'm still having no luck.

I have upgraded various parts of my system since I originally installed it but apart from a newer DVD drive I can't think of anything else that would cause the problem.

If anyone knows of any way to fix this it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

have you got another dvd drive?
also is the disk scratched or dirty?
the laser could also need cleaning,
is there any other disks that don't work on this drive?

I'm planning on borrowing a mates drive tonight just to test, but the thing is I don't have any other problems with my current drive, it reads other games and DVDs just fine.

The first thing I thought was that maybe the drive is on its way out but after reading of problems other people have had I started to wonder.

Edit: The disk itself is flawless, in as-new condition. I don't think the laser needs cleaning or anything as it seems to work fine with everything else.

When I get the different drive sorted I'll post back with the results - fingers crossed!

Well, to update, I've got the borrowed drive in and FarCry installs fine now, so I guess I either have an incompatible drive or it's on its way out.

I'm going to put my drive in another PC to see if it has any problems, but at least I've managed to get the game installed now :)

I'm having another problem though, if anyone knows a quick answer to, my Logitech MX518 mouse isn't working during game play. It works fine whilst tinkering with the various menu options but as soon as I start a game it's unresponsive. Whilst in game I can move around with the direction keys but absolutely nothing from the mouse!

I’m beginning to get the feeling I’m just not meant to play this game

Edit: It's ok, I got it sorted now (by clicking defaults in options  )

ok, this ones simple :D, i presume you've patched it up, you have to go to the options screen and click the 'controls' tab and click 'reset to defaults', and it should work fine, how do I know? I had exactly the same problem ;)
Its a patch that enables you to use joypads, it disables the mouse  I have no idea why.
