Help Installing mplayer

Hi

Im trying to install mplayer (but using the latest versions of these).

Ive got as far as:

Time to compile MPlayer. Issue these commands.

$ tar -xjf MPlayer-1.0pre5.tar.bz2
$ cd MPlayer-1.0pre5
$ ./configure --enable-gui

the ./configure --enable-gui worked

and then it said to type "make" but i get this:

Do you have a compiler chain probably gcc? and also you probably need to be compiling and installing as root if you're installing into /usr/local/ because it might need the perminssions.

But yeah, i'm guessing your dont have gcc installed. What distro are you using?

Also "mplayer-1.0_pre8" is the latest release I think.

Type "sudo make" and give your admin password when requested, should get you past the make not found step

I doubt it. 'Make' isn't a command reserved for root - normal users are allowed to compile stuff too, but they most likely won't be able to 'make install' because of permissions on the filesystem.
